Ways To Give

There are a variety of ways you can help to support our cause. In addition to outright donations, planned giving allows you to arrange charitable contributions in ways that maximize personal objectives while minimizing after-tax costs.

Please allow us to assist you with some gift planning, that could result in big financial and tax savings, and provide a lasting tribute to your support of Hospice Hawaii.

DEFERRED GIFTS

Charitable Remainder Trusts are excellent estate planning tools as they offer donors much flexibility. Donors can transfer property under the trust agreement and manage how the trust income and principal are to be distributed. To qualify for tax benefits one of the following two may be selected:

1) Charitable Remainder Unitrust

Create a trust that pays a fixed percentage of assets as revalued annually. The goal of this program is to create a hedge against inflation over the long term and supplement retirement income.

Benefit: variable income for life; immediate income tax deduction

2) Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust
An annuity trust shares many of the same features as a unitrust with one basic difference. Instead of an annual payout to a beneficiary that may vary over the years, the annual payout from an annuity trust will not change over the time that the trust is in existence.

Benefit:
fixed payments for life, often at a higher rate of return; immediate income tax deduction

Gifts Under Your Will can defer a gift until after your lifetime. You may designate Hospice Hawaii in your will as a general bequest, percentage of the balance of an estate, etc. These gifts can be changed during a donor’s lifetime.

Benefit:
Donations exempt from federal estate tax; control of assets for your entire lifetime

Gifts of Real Estate with Retained Life Interest is available to those interested in donating real estate by using a remainder interest. This will allow you to receive an itemized charitable income tax deduction at the time the gift is made, and more importantly retain the right to reside in the residence or use the vacation home without disruption for the remainder of your life.

Benefit: Charitable income tax deduction; lifetime use of residence

Gifts of Life Insurance is often overlooked, but is a great way to make a very substantial gift, at very little initial cost.

Benefit: Current income tax deduction; possible future deductions through gifts to pay policy premiums
