Consultations & Family Conferences
Learning that a loved one is facing a life threatening illness can leave the entire family in a state of uncertainty and even shock. Critical decisions may be required, and often in a very quick time frame. These decisions require the family to understand what type of care is desired by the patient and what options for care are available. There are also times when patients and their families wish to learn more about hospice care before beginning Hospice Hawaii services.
Hospice Hawaii staff are available to consult with families during those time as they struggle to find answers to their questions.
All relationships have holidays and milestones that are celebrated. After a death there is now not only an empty place but a flood of memories. Taking charge of the holiday before it takes control of you will not change the grief, but will make it more manageable.
Here are a few things to help:
- Do what is best for you. Prepare yourself emotionally and physically with meditation/prayer, proper exercise and diet
- Look your best. Pamper yourself with a new hairstyle, massage, clothes, bubble bath, etc.
- Schedule daily alone time to get yourself together
- Surround yourself with positive people
- Make daily lists; concentration can be hard
- Ask family and friends to discuss your loved one
- Develop new traditions (like a potluck party) with friends
- Donate to charity in memory of your loved one
- Follow your heart to tell you what feels right
