Cost to Patient

There is usually no cost to the patient and family. Medicare beneficiaries are entitled to hospice benefits. For services related to the terminal illness, there are virtually no out-of-pocket costs, even for drugs, equipment, and other costly items needed in the last months of life.

No one who is medically eligible for hospice services is turned away regardless of their ability to pay.

Concurrent Care

Patients with UHA health plans may be eligible to receive both curative care and hospice services under the concurrent end-of-life care benefit. Concurrent care allows those diagnosed with terminal illnesses to continue treatment, including radiation, chemotherapy, or surgical procedures, while receiving hospice services. Previously, patients had to forego curative treatment measures to qualify for hospice care.

Contact your insurance provider to find out if you or your loved one qualifies for the concurrent care benefit.
