Hospice Hawaii offers patients and their families several alternative therapies as part of our comprehensive care philosophy.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy uses natural essential oils to treat the mind, body and spirit. Essential oils can be added to a bath, massaged into the skin, directly inhaled or diffused to scent a room. Aromatherapy can provide comfort by easing tension, reducing restlessness and anxiety, increasing circulation and breathing, and promoting a sense of well-being.

Art Therapy

Hospice Hawaii’s Art Therapy program provides provided for our hospice patients and families. Art therapy fosters a unique and creative way to help patients maintain dignity and quality of life. Art therapy is especially useful in helping children understand and deal with issues of death, dying, and bereavement and so made available for the children and grandchildren of patients. The Hospice Hawaii art therapist, who part of the member of the care team, visits select patients and spends one-on-one time working on artwork.

Massage Therapy

Hospice Hawaii’s massage therapy is individualized for each patient’s diagnosis and condition. Our massage therapists work closely with the entire care team to ensure each patient’s needs are being met.

Massage therapy provides therapeutic massage within the context of the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients and is a tool for pain relief and symptom management. Massage has been shown to reduce pain, decrease stress and anxiety, heighten peacefulness, and restore emotional balance and overall physical comfort.

Pet Therapy

Hospice Hawaii’s therapy pets provide unconditional love, laughter and smiles to patients in any setting. The therapeutic benefits of pet therapy include easing physical and emotional pain, improving memory and reducing stress.
