Costs
Hospice care is fully covered by most health insurance programs, including Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance providers. Co-payment may be required for room and board at residential hospice care homes, hospitals, or nursing home facilities. Hospice Hawaii will prepare all billing and paperwork for insurance reimbursements.
No one who is medically eligible for hospice services is turned away regardless of their ability to pay.
Concurrent Care
Patients with UHA health plans may be eligible to receive both curative care and hospice services under the concurrent end-of-life care benefit. Concurrent care allows those diagnosed with terminal illnesses to continue treatment, including radiation, chemotherapy, or surgical procedures, while receiving hospice services. Previously, patients had to forego curative treatment measures to qualify for hospice care.
Contact your insurance provider to find out if you or your loved one qualifies for the concurrent care benefit.
