PRESS RELEASE, March 5, 2018 – JOIN HOSPICE HAWAII FOR ITS 9TH ANNUAL HOT PURSUIT

* Unique Fundraiser to Take Place on April 28, 2018 *

HONOLULU (March 5, 2018) – Putting the “fun” in fundraising, Hospice Hawaii will host its 9th Annual Hot Pursuit, presented by Par Hawaii, on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Waterfront Plaza. Teams of two to six participants are invited to race throughout Kakaako, as they search for mystery locations while solving riddles and completing challenging, yet fun tasks along the way. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place Finishers, Top Fundraiser, Best Spirited and Top Student Team.

“Hot Pursuit is an exciting ‘Amazing Race’ style event that was initially conceived to raise awareness of National Healthcare Decisions Day, which falls on April 16,” said Tori Abe Carapelho, president and chief executive officer of Hospice Hawaii. “In addition to encouraging people to make their future healthcare wishes known and protected with an advance health care directive, our annual event has grown to showcase the important services we offer to both patients and their families.”

This year, for the first time, Hospice Hawaii will introduce a QR code system during the race, through which participants will scan a code using their mobile devices to reveal clues to the various locations. Also new this year is the addition of trivia questions to receive the clues, so participants are encouraged to brush up on their Hospice Hawaii facts.

In addition to the race, the general public is invited to enjoy family-friendly activities, including a Kids Zone, face painting, balloon artistry, live entertainment, a mobile gaming truck, shave ice and more.

“Par Hawaii has been proud to serve as the presenting sponsor of Hot Pursuit since its inception back in 2010,” said Lance Tanaka, Par Hawaii’s director of government and public affairs. “Year after year, we enjoy bringing the community together as we join in on a friendly competition, all while supporting such a meaningful cause.”

Registration is now open for teams of two to six participants. Teams must pledge to raise a minimum of $250. Funds raised will help support Hospice Hawaii’s programs and services.

Race day registration opens at 8:30 a.m., and the race starts at 9:45 a.m. Validated parking will be provided. For more information or to register for Hot Pursuit, visit www.HotPursuitHI.com or call (808) 791-8045.
